Leadership is not a position to be occupied but a responsibility to be discharged in service of the people.

A Nairobi where every woman, every youth and every child has a seat at the table of decision-making — and the tools to shape their own future.

My philosophy of leadership was not learned in lecture halls — it was forged in the markets of Nairobi, in the fields of Nandi, in church halls and in the homes of women whose names never appear in newspapers but whose labour holds this country together. It was refined through years of organising, listening and standing alongside communities when the cameras were off.

This page sets out the principles that will guide every decision I make as your Women Representative. It is not a marketing document — it is a covenant. I expect to be held to account against these commitments every single day I have the privilege to serve.

Guiding Principles

My leadership is anchored on six principles that have guided every decision I have made in public life:

Service before self — every policy decision starts with the question: how does this serve the most vulnerable?
Listening as governance — wards and constituencies are consulted before national positions are taken.
Stewardship of public resources — every shilling entrusted to leadership must be accountable, transparent and traceable.
Inclusion of women and youth — no decision is complete unless the voices of women and youth have shaped it.
Courage to confront uncomfortable truths — corruption, nepotism and impunity must be named and fought, not accommodated.
Humility to learn — leadership is a continuous apprenticeship with the people as teachers.

Decision Framework

Every major decision passes through four filters before I commit:

People filter — what do the constituents most affected say?
Evidence filter — what does the data, research and comparative best practice tell us?
Values filter — does this align with our manifesto commitments and ethical standards?
Resource filter — can it be sustainedably funded without burdening future generations?

A decision that fails any filter does not proceed. A decision that passes all four is acted on decisively.

Mentorship Philosophy

I believe a leader's truest legacy is the next generation of leaders she raises. My mentorship philosophy rests on three commitments:

Apprenticeship over theory — young leaders are given real responsibilities with safety nets, not just workshops.
Sponsorship not just mentorship — I open doors, nominate and recommend, not just advise.
Especially for young women — I dedicate intentional capacity to identifying and lifting young women into leadership pipelines.

Ethical Commitment

I commit to the following ethical standards without exception:

Full public declaration of assets and interests upon taking and leaving office.
No awarding of public contracts to family, friends or business associates.
Recusal from any decision where a conflict of interest exists.
Quarterly public town halls in every constituency to account for stewardship.
An open-door anti-corruption whistle-blower channel with protection guarantees.

Leadership Journey Timeline

1 January 1990

Early Lessons: Market Stalls and Church Halls (1985–1995)

My earliest classroom in leadership was my mother's vegetable stall in Kapsabet market. There I learned that a leader keeps her word, that reputation is built one transaction at a time, and that the people you serve can always tell the difference between genuine care and performance.

In church and in school I was given small responsibilities — choir secretary, class prefect, chair of the Christian Union — each one teaching me that authority is borrowed from those you lead and must be returned to them, undiminished.

Organising Beyond Borders (1996–2010)

Through the 1990s and 2000s I worked alongside women's cooperatives, agro-processing groups and cross-county trade associations. Leadership here meant showing up — for meetings, for funerals, for harvests, for disputes. It meant being the first to arrive and the last to leave.

I learned that grassroots organising is the most underestimated form of leadership in this country. It is slow, unglamorous and transformative.

Stepping into Public Political Leadership (2010–2022)

When the new Constitution devolved power closer to the people, I saw an opportunity — and a duty — to step forward. I served as an ODM delegate, as a member of the county women's league, and as a coordinator for affirmative action nominations.

In each role I deliberately mentored younger women to take over — because a leadership seat that does not produce successors has failed.

Seeking the Mandate of Nairobi's Women (2022–Present)

Today I seek the mandate of Nairobi County's women. This is not a personal ambition but a collective assignment. My philosophy — servant, listening, courageous, accountable — is the only credential I bring. The work of governance, should the people entrust me with it, will be the work of every woman, every youth, every elder who refused to give up on Nairobi.

Leadership is service, not privilege. The greatest leader is one who empowers others to lead. When you rise, lift someone with you.
