Grace wakes up at 3:30 AM every morning to be at Gikomba Market by 4:30. She has sold tomatoes there for 22 years.
She supports three children — one in university, one in secondary school, one looking for work. Her husband died in 2015.
'We are not asking for charity,' Grace told me. 'We are asking to be left alone to do our business in peace. We are asking for protection from harassment. We are asking for a market that is clean and safe.'
I promised Grace that I will champion the Informal Traders Protection Bill. I intend to keep that promise.
