NAIROBI, KENYA — The Everlyne campaign today launched a countywide civic education drive aimed at moving Nairobians from being political spectators to active participants in democracy.
At the centre of the drive is a complete civic education guide — available on the campaign website — covering what politics really is, types of political systems, the role of political parties in a democracy, and a step-by-step walkthrough of how to join a political party in Kenya.
"Every five years, millions of Kenyans line up at polling stations, and for many, politics begins and ends on Election Day. But democracy is not only about voting every five years," Everlyne said at the launch.
The drive will see civic education forums held in markets, churches, mosques, boda boda stages and community halls across all 17 constituencies, with special focus on first-time voters, women and youth.
The guide also explains membership of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) — the party's history in the reform movement, its social-democratic orientation and its commitment to devolution, social justice and human rights.
